The Lions Won’t Rule Out Bringing in Tomlinson

LaDainian Tomlinson was cut by the Chargers earlier this week. With Kevin Smith rehabbing a torn ACL, the Lions need another running back. And, Tomlinson would be the biggest name the Lions have had since David Kircus. Ok fine, since Barry Sanders.

Yesterday at the Combine, Lions head coach Gym Shorts (Jim Schwartz) told the Associated Press that the Lions would not rule out pursuing LT. “We’ll look at every way we can to improve the team,” Schwartz said, per theAssociated Press. “I don’t think we make any decisions and just blanket say, ‘No, we’re not interested.’ Every player has something they can bring and if they can help us win, we’ll look at just about everything. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Tomlinson.”

Wow, can you imagine the Lions getting their hands on a surefire Hall of Famer? I can’t. And you shouldn’t. Just like me growing to 6’7″ and dating Anna Kournikova, it aint gonna happen. Here is why: “I’m very excited about the future and the opportunity that’s ahead,” Tomlinson said. “I’ve always said my No. 1 goal is to win the championship, so it gives me, I guess, confidence and relief to know guys have gone on to win championships.” Keep your pants on, Lions fans. LaDainian Tomlinson is not coming to a stadium near you.

And even if he had said, “I want to play for the Detroit Lions,” I’m not sure it’d be in the Lions interest to go gaga over him. Since 2007, his yards per carry have gone from 4.7 to 3.8 to 3.3. I’m not saying he doesn’t have anything left in the tank, but that’s a steep decline. He isn’t much more than a complimentary player anymore. And with Kevin Smith out until mid-season, more than likely, LT would be the guy carrying the load. Besides, his celebration is the worst in the league.

And, do you really want a running back who is responsible for this?
