Welcome to the Big Leagues, Omar Beltre

| July 1, 2010 | 1 Comment

I can’t imagine what it might feel like to step on the mound for your first big league appearance.  I would think my focus would be on staying loose and throwing strikes.  Omar Beltre’s focus was steered toward putting it on a tee for the Angels’ Erick Aybar.  Aybar, who had ten career big flies in almost 1,400 career at-bats, was the first Major League hitter Beltre faced in the bottom of the first.  Now Aybar has eleven home runs.

Of the thousands of pitchers who have pitched in the big leagues, Omar Beltre is one of 29 dudes who have given up home runs against the first Major Leaguer they faced.  He joins ex-Tiger studs Greg Gohr and Freddy Dolsi and as well as John Wasdin, John Papa and Spencer Pumpelly.  Quite a list.
