The NHL’s head disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan has had his hands full with the first week of the playoffs.  Throughout the whole playoff season last year, there were seven suspensions handed out.  Thus far this year, there have been nine players suspended a total of 16 games.  But, Shanahan handed down his stiffest penalty on an inanimate object.

During the Bruins postgame celebration after Chris Kelly’s overtime goal in Game One of their series against Washington, a pane of glass left its feet and drilled Bruins center David Krejci.  Krejci was left dazed, but did not suffer an injury from the hit that came out of nowhere.  But these things cannot happen in the playoffs and Shanahan had to nip this in the bud.

As he has done with other suspendable offenses, Shanahan made a video explaining exactly what went into his decision to suspend all panes of glass for the remainder of the playoffs.
