The St. Louis Cardinals needed something to spice up their last week of spring training and there was no better time than today with it being April Fool’s Day.  The team held a promotional giveaway, or so pitcher Adam Wainwright was led to believe.

In between innings of Sunday’s game against the Nationals, the Cardinals’ public address announcer stated that the team was giving a truck away to a lucky fan. Cardinals’ Lance Berkman drove the vehicle onto the field, causing a Wainwright double-take from the dugout. Berkman then proceeded to “give away” Wainwright’s Chevy Silverado to the fan, a cousin of Cards’ third baseman David Freese who was in on the joke from the start.

Freese’s cousin jumped in the back of the pick-up and Berkman drove it out of the stadium.  Well played, Cards.
