ND coach: Griner “like a guy playing with women”

After losing the women’s basketball national championship to Baylor Tuesday night, Notre Dame women’s basketball coach Muffet McGraw had an interesting compliment (I think it’s a compliment) for Baylor star Brittney Griner.

“She’s one of a kind.  She’s, uh, she’s like a guy playing with women.”  Now that may not seem inflammatory, but the internet has questioned Griner’s gender many times in the last couple games.  I can guarantee you that she wouldn’t have brought up the man vs. woman aspect if Griner was a cute little 5’7″ guard.  I won’t go there, but I guess I don’t have to because Muffet McGraw did it for me.

McGraw went on to say that Griner is the best (women’s) post player she’s ever seen.  Baylor finished the year 40-0 and became the first men’s or women’s team to go 40-0 in one season.

Update: Later Tuesday night, McGraw clarified her statements:

“I would hope that it was clear to those in attendance at Tuesday’s press conference that my comments were meant to be complimentary,” it said. “Any attempt by others to read anything more into that comment is wrong [and] malicious.”

So it’s our fault you compared a 21 year old woman to a man?  Ahh, I don’t think so.

Most athletes don’t wear make-up and if she works out as hard as Mulkey says she does. This can slow down effects of Hormones on her body.

    • Alice (Honey Do) says:

She not only looks like a man but she also talks like 1 2, wonder if she’s had a sex change up!! J K O C!!…

It was clearly a compliment and any further speculation is intentionally mean or motivated by people with another agenda!

Taken out of context! Who didn’t see that coming? A compliment? Re-watch the video. Quick-Draw McGraw hesitated before making the comment, which makes me think she knew what she was saying. Baylor played notre dame’s game the 1st half. Made adjustments and came out in the 2nd half and played their game. Whupped them good. So much for good sportsmanship on notre dame’s part. Poor losers.

Anytime notre lame loses at anything I am a HAPPY guy…..This institution deserves to never win at anything(which is what they have accomplished in the last quarter century)…….And I hope it continues especially in football…..Greedy Institution

So…no gender test done like the aprinter from Africa? A man posing as a woman trapped in a mans body? No boobs, Adam’s Apple, arms like that??? I don’t think its much of a stretch.

  9. Matt says:

as a guy we should be offended.
    come on
a avg HS boys team would whoop them

    • Anonymous says:

Clearly you have never seen Baylor play.

    • Goergs says:

I’m going to disagree that an average high school boys team would whoop them let alone beat them. A very good HS team may, but the best of the best college women are pretty darn talented.
