Robert Griffin III’s Subway bust

It’s a given that the Washington Redskins will be making Heisman trophy-winning quarterback Robert Griffin III the second overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday.  And if any teams picking later than second thought they would have a shot at RGIII, they can eat his head off…or eat their hearts out, whichever they prefer.  But his head would be tastier.

Monday morning, Subway announced that Griffin will be its latest ”Famous Fan” athlete endorser, following the lead set by Justin Tuck, Michael Strahan, Ndamukong Suh, Blake Griffin, Carl Edwards, Michael Phelps and others.  As part of their kickoff to the RGIII campaign, Subway unveiled a meaty representation of the former Baylor star from the chest up using their new Smokehouse BBQ chicken.

Artist James Victor of Conshohocken, Pa., used more than 300 pieces of Subway chicken to make this statue, which was unveiled at a Subway on Fifth Avenue in New York.

I know this got word out of their new item on the menu and boasted that RGIII will be pimping their product, but this alien-looking configuration doesn’t make me want to go to visit my local sandwich artists any time soon.  And I’m pretty certain this would scare many young children.  Maybe just having RGIII telling me to”eat fresh” while holding a sub doing the Heisman pose would have sufficed.
