Ex-ND QB tweets pic controversial Notre Dame/Alabama National Championship t-shirt
So in what seems like a month from now (it”s three weeks away), the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will play the Alabama Crimson Tide in the BCS National Championship Game on January 7. Former Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen, who currently backs up Carolina Panthers’ Cam Newton, tweeted a picture celebrating the game.
It was a play on the “Catholics vs. Convicts” game between Notre Dame and Miami (Fla.) in 1988. But instead of the criminals that were the Miami Hurricanes, Notre Dame will be playing a group of “yokels” drinking moonshine, or cousins, if you go by the t-shirt.
Clausen has since deleted the tweet and has replaced them with two follow-ups:
1. ”Some people have to much time on your hands! It’s a shirt people lol.”
2. ”The shirt was sent to me! I was saying THANK YOU #calmdownpeople,”
I’m a pretty good audience and a fan of all sorts of humor, but Clausen probably should have held off on having this t-shirt associated with him. It isn’t like he’s very well-liked to begin with. The press conference he held to announce he was attending Notre Dame was at the College Football Hall of Fame. He flashed his multiple high school state championship rings as though they were Super Bowl rings and he never lived up to the (partially self-made) hype.
What do you say?
