General Motors CEO Dan Ackerson makes Lions wisecrack at event in Kansas
General Motors CEO Dan Ackerson has eyes on GM becoming the “world’s most valuable automotive company” and he isn’t afraid to put others down to get there.
Ackerson was in Fairfax, Kansas Monday for GM’s announcement of expanding a local $600-million assembly and stamping plant for the Chevy Malibu and Buick LaCrosse. He empathized with any Kansas City Chiefs fans in attendance.
“I hope you don’t feel too bad about the (Kansas City) Chiefs’ recent performance. It’s not like you’re Lions fans.”
Ackerson took it further with a history lesson. “The Detroit Lions have never been to a Super Bowl, and the last time they won an NFL championship (1957), GM was building the Pontiac Catalina here, and Elvis was topping the charts with ‘Jailhouse Rock’ and ‘All Shook Up.” The Chiefs won Super Bowl IV in 1970.
What shouldn’t be lost here is who owns/runs the Lions – the Ford Family, General Motors’ biggest foe.
