David Ortiz thinks baseball players are the dumbest athletes
Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz sat down with Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com to discuss various happenings as the baseball season is beginning to ramp up. Among the topics Ortiz addressed was the the recent Biogenesis scandal involving several players including Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun, Gio Gonzalez and Jhonny Peralta. He was extremely candid.
“When I first heard about [players being linked to the clinic]. I started saying that us, as baseball players, we pretty much might be the dumbest athletes of all the sports because there’s a history of players doing things like that and later on getting caught. We’re talking about six or seven years. So how come in 2011 or 2012, there are players still being caught in the same situation?”
Boy, Ortiz squared up that pitch and hit it hard. You can read into it that he was singling out ARod, who has admitted to using performance-enhancing drugs, and Braun, who averted a 50-game suspension on a technicality last season. But as a whole, Ortiz has a very valid point. The steroid cloud still very much hangs over baseball and certain players are still sniffing around suspicious places. It isn’t smart.
Ortiz’s comments may get under some players’ skin, but when you’re right, you’re right. Those hanging around clinics and trainers who handle “illegal” supplements should be called out.

Mr. Ortiz is right. But thousands of baseball players do not have not even a GED or High School Diploma. Except from Puerto Rico in which the government of PR mandates by law that all players from the Island should have at least a high School diploma and some college. Dom. Republic none of their players have a high school diploma except A-Rod and because he studied over here in the USA. Laws should be changed because many of these players sooner or later end-up without school and without their careers.

David Ortiz tested positive for PEDs, acted surprised, then promised he would investigate, find out the details and tell everyone.

What a hypocrite. If there ever was a text-book example of a player showing tremendous year-over-year improvement it was David Ortiz when he went to the Red Sox.
