Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek’s funny facemask (PIC)

Earlier in this young NHL season, pictures of the facemask of then-backup Red Wings goalie Thomas McCollum made their internet debut.  McCollum has a liking of the late Chris Farley’s character Tommy Boy.

Apparently the sense of humor is a trend among Wings backup netminders as the current Jimmy Howard backup, Petr Mrazek, has a different funny guy on his mask.  The 20-year old Czech has a painting of Family Guy‘s Peter Griffin wearing a Superman outfit.  Mrazek, the Wings’ fifth-round pick in 2010, has not yet made his NHL debut.

Two backup goalies, two namesakes painted on their facemasks.  A pattern is forming.

Mrazek’s is better, though, because he’s Petr and he plays (most of the time) for the Griffins.
