The Michigan State family awoke to awful news Wednesday morning as Lacey Holsworth’s family announced that eight-year old Princess Lacey had lost her battle with cancer. Awful awful news about an outstanding, courageous little girl who shined so brightly in her short time on this Earth. We all know the story about how she became friends and pseudo-siblings with Michigan State basketball player Adreian Payne. The two have become inspirations to millions across the country over the last few months since their special bond made national news.
The one thing I will always remember about Lacey is that she NEVER stopped smiling. She accompanied Payne and the Spartans at home games and made the trip to New York City for the Spartans’ Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games. She traveled to Dallas to watch her Superman compete in the college slam dunk contest. Her radiant smile never left her face.
Through Michigan State, Payne released a statement Wednesday expressing his thoughts on his dear friend’s life.
Lacey will never know how many lives she touched. Adreian Payne, a total class act, will probably never know the impact he had on Lacey’s life. Watching their bond this season was ten times better than any national championship banner.

He has been keeping it sunny ever since.
