With two minutes left in Wednesday’s 78-48 win over North Florida, Tom Izzo grabbed the PA announcer’s microphone and gave a small tribute to retiring referee Ed Hightower. Wednesday marked the last game Hightower will call at Michigan State.
Hightower has been the cause of Spartans fans’ ire and countless Izzo red faces over his 32 years refereeing Big Ten basketball. He’s been a Big Ten icon for as long as I can remember. It was an extremely classy move for Izzo to put all of Eddie Showtime’s poor charging calls behind him for a minute.
Izzo even got a little dust in his eye during the tribute. Congrats on the retirement, stripes!

In his glory days as a Big Ten baseballer, Tim often thought about dating Jennifer Love Hewitt. After he hung ‘em up and got real, he graduated from law school and came back to Detroit. He has been keeping it sunny ever since.
