How very sad that pictures of young people who are in love inspire thoughts of black vs. white. I am a white father with 2 beautiful young daughters and pray that whomever my daughters love will be good and loving men — not that they will be white, black, yellow or red. Txman, I’m a white guy living in the south. Interracial couples is something I see many times daily. Thank goodness it does not bother me. If it did I would be one miserable f**k. I think that there is a problem with the youth today of all colors when it comes to their attitude about marriage. Young girls having babies and being unwed seems to be acceptable. Looking at these pictures I don’t first think that a white girl shouldn’t be with a black man, the first one that hits me is why is the girl with the white guy with the fd up mouth full of teeth. And dude most of all-THANK YOU for defending this country.
I knew after looking at these photo’s the comments would be interesting. I’m a black man and what I find not surprising is that every black kid in the photo’s have white girlfriends. Now my wife is black and I have two kids one was from a woman who knew it was over and tried to trap me by getting pregnant. We didn’t stay together but my son lives with me and is attending college this year. Having said that I dated white girls when I was in my twenties exclusively and I’ll tell you why, they only wanted the same thing I wanted good sex with no hassles or strings attached, no attitudes. I felt that every black girl I met when I was in my twenties had a possesion thig going. I wasn’t interested in a girlfriend I was interested in sex and I hung out with a lot of white guys then that were doing the same thing I was doing so suggesting that only black men like to fool around is absurd.
Second, I read DLyles comments about single family households and it was painfully annoying to read but true, I believe that we as a people black people have serious problems that stem from a lack of confidence we have in each other. we have problems doing business with each other, problem communicating with each other and it all stems from the history of the brutal segregation that occured in this country. segragation that ended a short 47 years ago. If 3 black men were walking down the street together they would be pulled over and harrassed for planning a robbery. The state and local goverment use to allow pyscopaths to have their way by terrorizing black communities and it was justified. This in my opinion has caused a deep routed problem that is not easy to fix. Today’s youth (All you 30 somethings and younger) live without truly recognizing the history of America. It takes a long time to get over this kind of abuse. Education in black communities is not taking seriously because not to long ago, a black man with a college degree was lucky to find a job as a janitor. The solution is to try and start our own businesses even today it is hard if your black to get a small business loan. My uncle started a convienence store in the late 50′s in Hoboken,NJ. His store caught fire 4 months after he open and then he recieved a knock at the door from some white guys that told him if he reopened the next time he would be in it. Far to many black men feed off of the resistence that society has placed on them, plus they still here the stories from the old guys that make them feel like it is not worth trying. This is the caused of the missing men in housholds and lack of men attending college. This mind set needs to change NOW in black America. I hate hearing white guys make negative comments that are painfully true.
One last note:
If a kid (white or black) grows up in an abusive household there is a high chance that kid will grow up to be abusive. Now for black people add in 256 years of slavery and another 100 years of segregation, i think that type of abuse that still lingers today takes a lot longer than 47 years to fix.

I also like how facts can go both ways, yes more whites are on welfare, because there are more white than blacks, lets take that in context of %’es and you’ll see a different story, just like there are more whites in prison as well, but again lets look at the % of white/blacks in prison not that hard to google at the BCA sites.
Although citing facts from 1992 isn’t always a good thing to do, but I doubt the numbers have changed much, but the once the recession hit, I’m guessing the % of whites on welfare increased as jobs were lost.

Oh, a lot of white people don’t know that a lot of the black people who live in poverished areas don’t strive for more due to the fact that black parents settle for less. Some are even taught to live off of government subsidies through our hard-working tax dollars. While that is detremental to our place in society, consider this:

I’m biased but it’s not by religion, sex, race, tall or short, rich or poor, Republican or Democrat…..I am biased against bad people. Racism is alive and well in this country from the different races and in my opinion and from my everyday observations today it comes more from the black race. I dated one White woman and she was the greatest. We met when we were 25 years old and we are now both in our late 50′s, and we are still the best of friends. We really loved each other, and I was not a NFL prospect. We were in the Air Force. So, I give these brothers a break. Maybe that’s who they fell in love with, and hopefully, the women are not with them just for the possibility of becoming the next young millionaires. You see this a lot and some, not all, brothers do it just to have that “trophy” on their arms. Some have lost sight of who they are and the rich history his Black woman brings to the table. I know there are some beautiful, intelligent Sisters on those campuses, but the so-called “superstars” go the other way when it comes to dating. Personally, I prefer to date my own. I have not found her yet, but I know there is a beautiful, intelligent sister with my name on her out there for me. Mom would always say; “If you can’t use her comb, don’t bring her home!!” I really don’t agree with her because I believe that love knows no color. I just personally prefer a Black woman. But who knows. A White, Hispanic, Asian, or Native American woman might cross my path and have me singing “Can I Take You Out Tonight?” I would suggest that those brothers ask their White lovers one question; “Would you love me if I wasn’t a NFL prospect?”

I have personally seen this situation over and over. Being a white offensive lineman in college, I was witness to several of these relationships, and yes the black guys constantly rub it in to us whites that they are taking our women. The sad fact is 99% of these relationships end when they are drafted to the NFL, allowing the black athlete to spread his seed whenever and wherever he wants. We are in an era where the black man is substantially more racist than the white man is. Because of the numbers involved, a black male college student will be surrounded by a much larger percentage of white female students than he will by black female students. Many black women and some white folks always get upset when famous black men marry white women. Why do white women chase black men? Mainly because (1) black men used to be “off limits” or taboo for white women and are therefore a form of rebellion, (2) many black men are famous, assertive, and aggressive, and (3) many black women are so harsh and “in yo face, brutha” that some black women would rather look elsewhere. Many of my black female friends are nice and easy to get along with, but many others are caustic and abrasive. I don’t blame black men for wanting to shop elsewhere. And I don’t blame men — period — for looking at black women last. Look around: even black people are judgmental towards most black women — the lighter-skinned black women with whiter features (mainly thinner noses and lips) are the ones that get chased while the darker ones with broader noses and bigger lips get ignored or made fun of . . . or targeted for one night stands. All of which stinks because those are some of the nicest people in the world.

I want to talk about this from the black male perspective. I am a black male who is married to a lovely black woman. I really don’t understand the interracial dating thing. I know the words that “color blind” exists but older white Americans still old that, IE the Wall Street/High Society types. I just don’t believe it is something that is real at this point. I mean just look at this board. Heck look at all the stares that white women get with black men (I have yet to see a white man with a black woman outside of TV). I am actually shocked white women want to be with black men. I mean I mostly see this with athletes (gold diggers, I think only white women truly are in the sense) or when black males are with overweight white women (usually because they are of low self esteem and will take care of their man). I guess thinking about it more that it isn’t a problem for me but I always wondered what it would be like to have a child that did not look like me? I mean I don’t think alot of these white women understand that problem. Alot of white women can’t handle having a black baby. My cousin’s wife couldn’t handle it. Plus my cultural backround is much different from that of a white woman. I actually like that there is black, asian, white, mexican, middle eastern, and son on. I think it’s our differences that make us up and make me proud of my heritage. I dunno overall. I might be the only one to see that. I guess I just wish it was for love and not golddigging which I think the case is. Also I wonder if alot of these athletes just want the “hottest and most popular cheerleader” which always happens to be white. Oh well, to each their own i suppose.

Who knows if I ever had that chance and was in that situation, but… I have always said I like that there are different types of people, and I think every one should be proud of who and what they are and where they come from. There is a very big difference between being racist and being prejudice. I dont hate any one because of their race or color. I am very proud to be white. Mostly proud of my Scottish heritage and history of my family, and you should be very proud to be black, you have every right to and a lot of reasons to be. I believe the first humans were black. I believe we all evolved from black people, and Africa is the most awesome continent on the planet.
DeAndre: Join the Army. You will come across lots of white men married to black women. I remember the first time I noticed it. I went into a white captain’s office when he was not in to drop something off and saw a picture of his wife (a black woman) and his stepchild (a black girl) on his desk. I did a double take, thought I was in the wrong office, and re-checked his name on the door. Since then, I notice white soldiers with black wives all the time in the base exchanges, commissaries, chapels, and other post facilities. There are lots of mixed race kids all over the military contributing to a more blended society. I think you may not see a lot of it in civilian land, because the races don’t mix as much as they do in the Army. Blacks, Whites, Hispanics, Asians, all work together, live together and send their kids to the same schools together in the Army now, although this was not always the case.
You’ll see the same thing in all the services and the nearby communities as well. I think it’s a great things.

I’ll believe society is color-blind when the probability of a white man dating a black woman is equal to the probability of a black man dating a white women (or when the probability of white women dating/marrying non-famous/non-rich black men = the probability of white women dating famous/rich black men). Let’s be real: Black men consume the same media images, notions, biases as everyone else; add in the reasonable expectation of white women to be opportunistic regarding marriage-worthy mates and you begin to understand higher incidence of black athlete-white women pairings.

We all should be beyond all this racial talk. I guess I grew up in the 1960′s/70′s. I was raised to respect all people as equals regardless of where they are from or what their background is. The big clashes that might be there would be just as likely between an Irishman and a Scottish woman, or an Italian and a Norwegian. They are cultural clashes. Sure, there are black bigots out there, but when I read through these comments, it becomes apparent that there are many white bigots, too. I can understand pride in one’s upbringing and background, but not at the expense of being able to accept others for who they are, and making an effort to understand.

Finally, if the same is said of the parents of black kids, the same basic facts apply. They haven’t graduated yet, but they’re enjoying what the fruits… of their guy’s success, while he’s enjoying theirs… I see no problem. And if they get married and keep it together over time, FANTASTIC. After all, this country is a melting pot, and this is one area in which there hasn’t been so much melting…
I know many mixed-race couples. In fact, a pair of my ancestors, about 7-8 generations back, were exactly that – though an American Indian woman and an Englishman. Celebrities, in general, have more trouble maintaining their marriages. It isn’t just athletes. It comes with having a “bigger than life” public image. If these guys can settle down and remember that they aren’t bigger than life, but just human, then they’ll succeed on the field, with their marriages, and with their lives, in general. And that goes for the women, too. That doesn’t mean they should accept a Tiger Woods-type marriage. But they should recognize that their athlete husbands will have a lot of travel, a lot of pain, and a lot of long hours practicing even when they are home. I wish them all the best.

The US has a juvenille problem that will most likely plague it’s society for decades to come. For whatever reason while the rest of the world get’s over race issue’s (except for minor small pockets), the US still can’t get a long with it’s own people regardless of race. When black athletes typically enter into highly competitive collegiate sporting programs in their freshman year, they are usually shipped to remote locations were the presence of black women are very low, or non existent. Several months and weeks months of training and practice may occur before these athletes actually begin class. Once on campus they may or may not see the numbers of black women increase.
During these periods of isolation from black women, so else will does he talk to, any available women that will give him a chance. So by the time the brother does steps onto the college yard and transitions into a student-athlete, his eyes are on a different prize (non-black women). The black athlete becomes more comfortable dating outside of his race. See the TV Movie on Dennis Rodman’s life story; different sport but similar trends.
Third: I remember when the Chicago Bears moved their training camp facilities from a Platteville, Wisconsin Area College to a Bourbonnais, Illinois Area College (189, miles north vs. 56, miles south from Soldiers Field; were the Bears Play). The attendance of black fans to the Bears training camp soared to unprecedented numbers. And yes, more black women were available for the post collegiate selection pool.

Sadly there is a sense of entitlement in all races. When we delve outside of our own there is a feeling of rejection. Who is to blame for that? The media or our upbringing? We all fall short in that area due to the fact we all stereotype due to the influence of our surroundings and demographics.

My wife is black and she dated white guys and black guys due to the fact she was a military brat overseas and really saw no color until she came back to the states.
My demographics were different growing up in the inner city. Although many of my activities had me to mingle with all races it was impressed upon me not to date outside of my race because of the stereotypes fed to me. I honestly had a pending relationship with a white young lady that we both agreed to put on hold because from a maturity level we weren’t ready for the pressure. Sad but true story.
Maybe when we view each other as people and not colors we can progress. Does racism exist? Yes and sadly it will but we can control our own little sphere of influence going forward by educating our kids and opening our minds to change.
My prayer for my two children is that they find love and for me it doesn’t matter what the shade of their skin is. Wow, I cant believe what I am reading. People get together because it is something that they choose to do. Mostly, based on what they like in a person, sometimes, race is even excluded from the equation. I have dated all races of woman and let me tell you, they are wonderful and complicated. Woman can actually be that way. An woman, so can men!
The theory that African American men are more like or prone to impregnate Caucasian women and leave them, lets think for a moment. Many of these woman (all races) tend to look for a meal ticket, not all… but some! If any of you attended a large university that has a prominent athletic program, you know exactly what I am talking about.
